Increased re-use
I grabbed a copy of the Hipster PDA Edition, and am attempting to modify it for the purpose of making a holiday planner. Actually, a lot of the things needed for such a planner are already usable as-is (e.g. Shopping, Budget, Checklist) but then a lot of things aren't (restaurant into, hotel info, flights, train routes, ...)
Some of these are dead simple, and I am just doing this:
1. Find a card which is similar to what I need (ideally only text needing changing)
2. Open PDF in Inkscape
3. Fix gradients and line styles which Inkscape destroys on import - time consuming!
4. Change some text
5. Save back to PDF (saving to SVG too, to avoid the first 3 steps if there is a next time)
Other times I am experiencing a lot more pain to reuse the templates. For instance if I want to shuffle around a form, it's tough, because the way things have been grouped is in large rectangles. The OOo Widget Kit theoretically helps, but it doesn't have every type of form which is seen throughout the planner either, so I'm finding myself making new lines from scratch and hoping that the spacing is right. Particularly hard is modifying the text. Try getting the Contacts sheet and editing the # sign - for some reason Inkscape makes this extremely difficult. :)
Has anyone made any effort towards SVG-ising everything? With the amount of times the same object appears throughout the planner, it must be possible to achieve amazing levels of reuse. For instance, those curved title bars are all over the place. If they were in one SVG file then you could modify that file and it would change the title bars over your whole planner. And if it were hand maintained then I would be confident that things are the same dimension across all pages. :)
(Also, I am concerned about the licence of the official planner. Why is it No-Derivative, as opposed to Share-Alike? This appears to block sharing any changes even for free, if I read the CC information about that licence type... though it's fine to use them myself and never share them back. Yet people here are seen sharing back derivatives constantly.)

Dynamic Templates do SVG
But it does one file per page.

You Could...
...just take a blank notecard, and write whatever heading you need across the top with a nice juicy fountain pen.
Voila! Instant template!

Hey! That was my idea RN :)
Glad to see that the century old fountain pen is getting a niche in the 21th century digital world.
