What do you do with your old "normal" pens?
Submitted by Mander on Fri, 2010-01-22 23:41.
As part of my New Year's attempt to reduce some of the clutter in my house, I want to get rid of some of my perfectly useable but "normal" pens. None of them are dead but they are just promotional items, normal ball-points, etc.
Any ideas?

passing on the pens...
I like to take them along with some paper to different nursing homes. This is to encourage the older folks to write down their history and pass it on to the kids. They have rich experiences and lots to share. It also gives them something to do that might help someone else. They seem to enjoy it.
Donate them.
Schools can use them, especially inner city schools where supplies are low and families struggle to buy their own.
Leave them at the office or other offices
I'll sometimes drop them in the supply cabinet at work.
Other good places are places where you need a pen. The post office, the bank, and other places with forms to fill out.
Give them to something you're interested in
What are you interested in? Or people you like are interested in?
You could give them to the local pub for their quiz night
Or a community centre that supports something you think is worthwhile
Or any kids in the neighbourhood who need stationery for school
Or someone you know who likes doing crosswords
Or your favourite cafe (if they still use pens to take orders)
etc, etc
Keep a handful in a cup on your desk
Then when a coworker needs to 'borrow' a pen, you won't be out one of your favorite kind. ;)
Thrift store
You could put an elastic around them and donate them to your local thrift store. A local one near me sells them in big baggies for $0.90. I've bought some myself.
The PenAddict sends his pens
The PenAddict sends his pens to "Pens for Kids" - more info here i believe: LINK

Wonderful idea
I usual just leave them out and exposed. They wander away on their own.
