Flightschool planner project

Back in high school I used quark for some print type work so when I was recently assigned the project of making a time management tool for navy flight school students I immediately went in that direction. I've run into one main problem though, and it has caused me to reconsider the application of choice.

I'm having trouble finding out how to automate the dates on planner pages. I'm going for a two day-per-page layout. Pages are split vertically, the obvious issue is having to edit every single page with the new number/month/day of the week. I currently have quark xpress and adobe indesign, haven't decided which I would use, but after reading this site it seems that I could probably do the whole thing in something as simple as excel or word. Any advice would be much appreciated. I don't care which software I use, my main focus is being able to automate some of the creation of those pages to save time.
