Coffee Cup Kat's Cheap n' Easy Hipster

Coffee Cup Kat's Cheap n' Easy Hipster

I wrangled with various versions of the Hipster for a month or so before realizing that I was consistently using only a few of the GTD-based index cards, was never using the calendar (because I rarely have timed and dated appointments), and was using the same little flip-top notebook as a "capture device." So I trimmed back my cards to just two Yellow "To Do" cards: one for Home, and one for Work, which each had Next Actions and Waiting On lists on them. The "Home" list also has my "Stuff List" on the back: stuff I've borrowed, stuff I've lent, library books, movie rentals, etc.

I have pink "Project" cards for each major project, a purple "Appointments" card for my few dated appointments, and a blue "Someday/Maybe" card. I also added a couple of flowchart cards for Covey, GTD, and Flylady. I clipped the cards to the inside back of the notebook, and put a movable red flaglet on the next blank page.

Every morning, I do a quick update and review, flip the notebook open to show my "Work" list, and let the day begin.

Probably too simple a system for some, but for me it works great.

KISS in motion...

Well thought out and executed Katina. I believe you have summed up the ethos of this site beautifully... Hey best of all I didn't have to read Allen's new book ;)

Sardonios the Magnificent

Thanks for the compliment!

I was a little afraid to submit it because it's so very simplified (not to mention cheap). But I passed it on to a friend of mine who is a registered nurse (and one of the busiest people I know) and she was tickled to death with it.

It's the size that really works for me. It fits in the back pocket of my jeans when I'm off the clock, and I've been known to use it as a "Saturday night wallet" when Christmas shopping--I clip my driver's license and debit card with the index cards. No lugging around my 30 pound purse schlepping through the malls!

Your kit is great

Just thought I'd let you know that I think your kit is the best that I've seen so far. I'm new to this whole systematic way of tasking and keeping track of things. Thanks for the idea!

Inspiring...

I'm in the process of getting my own "kit" together at this very moment. I really like what you've done here, Kat, very inspiring for someone who is looking to get as simple as he possibly can. I'm not quite sure where I'm headed, but I hope I'll know when I get there.
