Homemade Bleachers

A while back I remember reading a post on this site about making your own notecard bleachers/holders out of medium sized binder clips. I was so intrigued by the idea that I immediately put it into practice. I put one by my phone, another next to my computer, and yet one more at home on top of my dresser. The down side clips at the office is that they tip over easily. So today, in the true spirit of DIY, I adhered four binder clips to a wooden ruler using thick two-way tape.

In case you missed the earlier post to which I am referring, the author suggested standing binder clips up on the black clip part with the silver arms sticking straight up. The note card fits nicely between the arms. It's a bit tippy, unless you attach them to a ruler. Now I have my own notecard bleacher, albeit only one level. But the view is just fine.

Another suggestion

Your idea sounds great. Simple to make, and with a little care, it can look very stylish.

Here's another idea along the same line. Last time I had a fat Border's Gift Card and needed to burn the last few $$$'s on it, I got a pack of clips, like this, that are metal cubes, about an inch on a side, with a wire and an alligator clip on each.

You could arrange these note holders anywhere you like. I have seen them made of all sorts of materials (link1, link2), some with sticky bases.

Those Are Cool

Seeing those fancy clips makes me wish I had saved my old.....ummmm....uh....er......clips from my "high" school days. ;)

Bleacher shelves

Hmmm, you could get one of these expand-a-shelves and have staggered bleachers...

You guys are making me want to do 3x5 again... stop it! ;)

-Sarah

You KNOW you WANT to do 3x5's :)

I have seen the "roach clip" holders in various lengths. You could get the same effect.

Heck, you can buy such 'gator clips in bulk and do them yourself.
(Note to self: Check out sources for bulk gator clips)

Radio Shack?

Radio Shack would have stuff like this, I'm sure...

Also, I found those cubes with clips on them at Target just recently.

-Sarah

and...

You betcha on that Radio Shack idea.

And how about adding THIS to the mix ? Do you see the diverse/perverse possibilities my twisted little brain sees ?

sputnik

You sick-o!! LOL. I almost got one of these sputnik memo holders at one point...

-Sarah

Gotta Have One !!

Wow ! I know the idea was not original, but I did not expect to see one for a reasonable price like that !!

Many thanks for the link !!

(Addition) Here's my mania: I cannot accept stuff without proving to myself it is as best as possible, so I Googled on "kikkerland sputnik" and found it for $10.99 at Target, $10 at Rev Dezign -- who also sell Moleskine

I've Seen That Before

In fact I think I've used one too (the details are a bit hazy, though). Now, of course, it would come in handy for passing notes across the table.

Place card holders!

I was cleaning out my china cabinet and came across a dozen place card holders, and realized they'd be absolutely perfect to hold index cards, in either orientation.

The ones I have are fairly restrained: Silver plated, 1 1/2" inches tall. The base looks like a stack of circulate plates of decreasing diameter, and rising from the top is a short stem that bifurcates into two prongs. It sort of looks like a lyre. The prongs are two layers of metal and will hold onto a card or even two slipped into them. The base part is fairly heavy (whatever cheap metal they use for this stuff) so it actually takes a deliberate effort to tip one over -- more often is just skids away under pressure.

I've done some googling without finding exact matches, but there are scads of place holders out there. Finding ones suitable for the office is a bit more of a chore, since most placeholder sites seem aimed at wedding reception use. Here are some to look at:

Set of 4, glass bases with stems and star shaped wire holder

For the future King of the World

And my personal favorite-- I can't wait to have a pod of these swimming across my desk.

Another great DIY idea

The holders made of wire like the ones at Klinq.com could be home-made so easily. I have one I got from the Disney Store that has a small spiral at the top. All I gotta do is find out what kind of wire it would take and SHAZAM !!

BTW, this threads pages have been pulled way too wide by not using an HTML anchor for that long URL. The basic Anchor tag format looks like this:
<a href="http://www.diyplanner.com">D*I*Y Planner</a>

and then all that shows up is a link like this: D*I*Y Planner

Sputnik photo holders

I just wanted to mention that these are on clearance at the Target near me.

Grumble grumble :(

They were nowhere to be found at my Target.
Which aisle ? Office Supplies or what ?
...and how much marked down ?
