Dynamic Templates - Version 3 is in the works

First, a question for the Mac folks: Is anyone out there still running anything less than Leopard (10.5) ? Maintaining compatibility for 10.4 places a bunch of limitations on what I can/cannot do, so before making a decision that could cause a lot of screaming, I felt it best to consult the community.

Now on to other stuff:

Recent additions to the Qt libraries have introduced the ability to import and work with iCalendar files. Once I wrap my brain around these features, I should be able to give you templates that will import your calendar info. Before anyone gripes, iCalender is a platform independent data standard ( reference http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5545 ) and every planner/calendar software I have seen to date can export iCalendar files -- they end with .ics -- and a lot of them can import.

Another feature I plan to pound on is the use of a small, in-memory database (reference http://www.sqlite.org/ ) for such stuff as a collection of inspirational quotes to be randomly placed on template pages and junque like that.

Those will be the main internal bells-and-whistles in this wave. In addition, I should be able to add some more templates of various types to the mix.

As always, your constructive comments and suggestions are welcome. Rude comments will be responded to or ignored as appropriate. You all know me well enough by now to know when to duck. :)

'Nother Mac question...

Anyone out there depending on G4/G5 Macs or have y'all moved up to Intel powered Macs ?

Intel

I'm on Intel now, but do have two G3 Macs in use in the house, but for myself, it's a MacBook Pro.

Format requests?

I would like to request a 3 months to a page for letter or legal size paper. Sometimes I need to do a little bit of quarterly planning or mid range planning, and a 3 month view would be perfect. Thanks ygor. :)

An interesting suggestion

How would you like to see the months on the page ?

my preference

would be a portrait style page, with sunday to saturday weeks, and the months set off from each other instead of just running into each other. I would not need a notes column. There is one 3 month template in the Microsoft office templates collection online, but the months are preset. I would like to be able to print whichever 3 month span I want. I prefer the dates in the upper left corner of each square, and just a little bit of unlined space to write a few words, due dates, some event, birthday, whatever I need in a quick view. There are some examples of what I want here: http://www.calendarsquick.com/printables/3-month-calendar.ht... I suppose I could just join their site.

I like it

I just need to tinker a bit to see if the number of weeks (rows of blocks necessary) in a quarter will change much.

excellent

I wish I could see inside your head sometimes, all the 'stuff' you know about computers and software and all that. Honestly, if the months have to run together like the format in one of those templates, it wouldn't be so bad. A quarterly planner is more of a visual aid anyway, for the big rocks, and it's probably beneficial to keep the weeks intact in a straight line. I think I've made one for myself before, but I didn't like it much because it wasn't aesthetically pleasing. The main thing, is being able to choose any three months I like.

I did have one other request/question. Is it possible to save the dynamic templates in some other format? For instance, if we made our one page per month on letter paper for 2011 and then saved it as an Open Office doc instead of PDF, we could go into the saved file and add birthdays instead of using my icky handwriting. Or something like that. I get the feeling that would be a lot of work in the programming part for you.

You are reading my mind.

I love your suggested features. If I had to make a wish-list, that would be the top two: being able to import my online calendar and being able to add inspirational and funny quotes!
