but I am able to use them at work, that's all. I'm not recommending them as a serious alternative to your wonderful work, just that Doug mentions his nightmares with Illustrator, and if you are lucky enough to have access to those applications, they are pretty cool! :)

InDesign costs (for you UK folks) £684.25
CS4 is from £1300 to £1600 or more depending on the version and extras.

Now then, how much do you have to pay for the Dynamic Templates ?

With Doug and Innowen regularly on the front page, there's lots to look forward to, I'm sure. Hey, Doug, have you had a chance to try Adobe CS4? I went on a training course the other day and Illustrator looked fantastic, plus InDesign seems to have even more automated thingummajigs to make the life of a non-dynamic template-maker (much as I love them, ygor) easier.

Seems like a good time not only to say "welcome back, Doug!", but also a big thank you to Ygor, Innowen, and everyone else who devotes their time and effort to make DIYP the fun, welcoming and useful place we know it to be.

I guess it really does take a village to raise a bunch of planning addicts, or at least to keep us a-swim in wonderful templates, resources, conversation, and whatnot... :-)

I almost wondered if you'd sold the whole enterprise to Ygor. I've missed your articles, reviews, templates, etc., etc. How's Sherlock Holmes and your other stuff?? What are you using for a planner these days? Are you still circified, or did you move on to something new/back to something old?

Sorry for the blip, folks. We had a hardware issue but good ole' Patrick came through yet again and made the world right.

While I'm here, it's time I gave you fine folks a little update on my mysterious disappearance and what's coming up. Nothing to do with a clever anti-analog campaign by the digirati, nor an insidious blackmail attempt by those planner companies hawking non-free templates. Although either would have been a pleasant distraction.

In my day-job, I lead the new media division of a mid-sized marketing/ communications company in Canada's far north. Many of our clients have a March 31st deadline for their projects if government funding is involved in any way, and typically we could have a dozen or so large projects clogging our pipes from January till the end of March. This year we had several times that, and boy, were we busy. Not just insanely busy, but 'how the heck are we even dreaming of doing all that work' busy. But I have an efficient and dedicated team with talents I couldn't even begin to laud, and they came through once again, delivering great work on time and on budget. So now the craziness is over, and we can all rush madly to the bathroom stalls and urinals and heave great collective sighs of relief.

So now those 12-hour workdays are winding down and my life is getting back to normal. And again, I turn to DIYPlanner with the guilty look of a parent leaving his kids too long at the daycare. (Ice cream, anyone? Just visit me in the Northwest Territories, and it's my treat.) There have been plans simmering on the backburner for far too long, and it's time to move things forward again.

First, I'm back to my regular appearances. I have a dozen or so posts and articles in the making, and will be posting at least once a week, likely more. And, behind the scenes, there are strong signs that I won't be the only writer returning to the fray.

Speaking of writers, we're always looking for new blood. Use my contact form if you think you can contribute articles and posts. We're looking for folks that croon about office supplies, notebooks, pens, creative ideas, and paper-based productivity to such an extent that co-workers and spouses think them mildly mad. ("If you love that fountain pen so much, why didn't you marry it!?!")

We're also looking for press releases about high-quality paper-centric products that our visitors would love to learn about. If you think your company has an innovative product, send me email at diyplanner -@at@- gmail dot com and we'll be happy to hear what you have to say. (Please, no software products. We're looking for real-world hold-in-your-hand gear.)

So, next. This website design, basically hacked together in a week several years ago, is growing a little stale, n'est-ce pas? It's time for a refresh, along with an upgrade to Drupal 6.x. (Think you can help? Drop me a line!) There are some seriously interesting goodies available with D6 that people here will love.

Some people have sent me ideas for D*I*Y Planner templates. Good ideas. I think I can almost bear to work with those Illustrator files again, so you might see some new forms soon. ...O! the nightmares those things once induced. Hundreds --if not thousands-- of hours of seeing nothing but little boxes and lines. I thank the stars that Ygor stepped in with his magical dynamic templates.

Last of all, my eternal thanks and admiration goes out to Inno, who always keeps things going in my continual work-related absences without a word of complaint, her voice remaining constant and her heart beating strong for this little community of ours. (Sappy, yes, but her devotion brings that out in me. I'm such a softie. Ahem, a large and manly one.)
