The one at home is a gift from a friend - it's monthly pictures of Ecuador, and it's making us want to visit sooner than planned. It's the lovely kind that shows all different things: people, places, flora and fauna.

Two at work: one the retail, business calendar that keeps me on track for reporting purposes. This is a year-at-a-glance (2'x3') and I have 2007, 2008, and 2009 all posted visibly in case I need comparable reporting periods. The second is a calendar similar to the home one, but its subject is Hawaii. An associate from the field sent it to me last week as a thank-you. Quite a pleasant surprise. It's currently hanging over Q4 of 2008 until I figure a better place for it.

Usually though, I use my classic-sized week-at-a-glance planner propped on a bookstand next to my computer.

It's nice to have pictures of something you like on the calendar.

My freebie calendar has made way for a late Christmas present - a frog calendar. Lots of little treefrogs - which are much cuter than the photos of food on the previous calendar

In the past....

.... I have made a hanging wall calendar for our church. I would try to find a local artist who was willing to donate their art to the calender, and I would whip it up, originally in Word, using a calendar template that was ok, but with lots of niggly problems, but when iPhoto came out with the photo calendar option, I used that. This year, however, we found a nifty daily calendar in Polish, with daily verses, and short text for thought, so we gave those out. I didn't realize until too late (namely January 1), that this meant that I no longer had a wall calendar for home! argh. So, rather than buying one, I just now went through my iPhoto, looking for a reaccuring theme that I might use. Needless to say, I found a _lot_ of train pictures from my last State-side stint, so I shall be printing out a train calendar for 2009 as soon as I can get the time to dig out my color printer. I've already got the pdf on the Desktop on my Mac. ;-) I happen to have some 2-sided glossy paper I will be using for it. It should look nice. I will probably "bind" it with Rolla Rings, rather than comb binding.

Catholic calendar from our church

Each year our church gives out nice wall calendars, complete with every important Catholic date/event/celebration/saint's day on it (useful info if you send the kids to Catholic school!).

On our back door, I have a magnetic/dry-erase 1-week "planner" type board. Events and appointments are written in on the appropriate dates; the week's dinner menu and chore chart is hung from the bottom of it with a magnet. Everyone in the house is guaranteed to see it at least once a day.

They still claim they didn't know they had to fold the laundry/change the cat box/take out the trash/etc ;)

One's a color Dilbert desk calendar.

The other is a Jr-sized full color circa punched week-at-a-time calendar. Grabbed from Wired's "Threat Level" blog a week or so ago.

I have the Mom Plan-It walla

I have the Mom Plan-It walla calendar that goes from August 2008 to December 2009. (Perfect name for the 20 year old newlywed! lol)

It has a slightly overlarge layout, with a grid like pattern over the dates. You can write people's name on the 8th coloumn, and then everyone has a corrisponding line to follow. It's handy since my husband doesn't like color coding like I do, but sure is willing to write on his line!

My mother in law gives the girls in the family calendars. My 2009 is on Faeries, featuring the art of Stephanie Pui-Man Law, Amy Brown, Jessica Galbreth and others.

I use mine to track holidaze, days off, and doc appts. It also brightens up most of the space on my fridge.

wall calendar

We have one like that. I used to have the Sandra Boynton one but we were given an "upscale one" from Metro. Mus. of Art. It has a handy pocket at the bottom for random stuff.

Why do I use one

Shris asked why we use wall calendars

I use a paper wall calendar because if I didn't I'd spend my life running around trying to find and fit in all the commitments my husband and I have made to family and friends.

My husband doesn't use a planner or diary he 'just remembers'. So, to keep my over-organising sanity :) we have a shared wall calendar for all those "yeah, sure we can come over and watch a movie on Thursday in 3 weeks time" invites.

K

P.S. Happy New Year

Wall calender

I was given an Art of Discworld one, the purpose of which is to look good hanging on my bedroom wall and nothing else :-) The family is sharing a Sandra Boynton one because it has a separate column for each family member and my daughter LOVES her books and music.

What is the subject of your 2009 wall calendar?

It's that time of year when those of us who use wall calendars start a new one.

I have a Weight Watchers calendar with lots of pictures of desserts, it came with a magazine.
...although the picture probably won't stop me thinking about food :)

But I decided not to get another calendar as I have desserty one already, and as it's not top quality it's something I'll happily write all over.

There are some inspirational, pretty and intriguing calendars which are all tempting. But I suspect that I'd probably want to keep them neat and pretty, which defeats the purpose of a home-base wall calendar.

So, do you have a 2009 wall calendar?
Did you choose it or did life choose it for you?
