Thank you

I punch one hole in my cards--the plastic and paper membership cards, buy-10-get-a-prize cards, frequent shopper cards, discount cards, etc.--and then stick a notebook ring through them. That works really well for keeping them all together. Only the two or three grocery cards I use the most are kept in my wallet, the rest on the ring go into a purse pocket.

That is a very good idea. I keep losing those cards. Thank you.

cards and receipts

For receipts, well, you could try a snack sized zip bag. I just stuff them in my purse and empty it once a week. If you reinforce the bag with a couple layers of packing tape, you could then punch it and stick it with your 3x5 stack.

discs aren't the problem

Turns out, the discs popped loose because of the flimsy nature of the punched pocket protector. I punched several homemade 3x5s from my last diy 3x5 attempt -- everything worked fine. I may actually be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Next thing to accomplish is some kind of hack for carrying around an ever-thickening stack of membership cards, credit cards, etc., and hopefully a way to corral receipts.

I used one

Hi.

I used to carry one in my back pocket. It was DIY, with plastic covers slightly bigger than the cards, with rounded corners.

It worked ok, but the covers started to get beat up--the corners nearest the discs would somehow get bent up. Occasionally a cover would pop off a disc.

I decided to get a shirt pocket briefcase instead, especially since the notes I make in my back pocket jotter are not long-lived things that get saved. I use them and throw them out. So no need to even punch them.

Check out the ducter

I use a ductster in my back pocket. That's loose 3x5s plus my car reg and insurance and receipts (one of my primary purposes for the ducter is receipts). I discovered it here on this site (check in the gallery--oh, never mind, here's the url: LINK

Mine is a bit bigger, but it's survived over a year at this point. I swear I'm going to post pics of mine on flickr someday. ;-)

Same experience

Ditto your experience. I now use a single book ring with card holes at top left, light black plastic cover front and back and hair banded when closed. My stack's about 40 cards. Works great in back pocket or front. EDIT: I canned the card wallet and other options for carrying loose cards one WINDY DAY. :-)

Back pocket PDA, Circa?

Has anyone tried the 3x5 top-bound Circa PDA (or a DIY version of it, of course) for carrying in a back pants pocket?

I thought it might work, but this morning my discs came out when I sat down. It's possible that I didn't have enough thickness to hold the set-up together, but before I punch a bunch of cards, I wanted to see if I was reinventing the wheel.

I'm planning on using a mix of 3x5 cards and pocket protectors. The pocket protector is working great as a carrying device for my index cards -- punching the whole thing would allow me to expand and mix-n-match. Most importantly, the pocket protectors would give me some place to stash the receipts that end up crumpled in my pockets.
