Icons

I think I see the position quicker than the icon...and it does help when you have a stack of cards, or going through one's archives. Also not limited to one language.

Soon to be moving directly to: http://john-norris.net/2007/09/18/hipster-general-stack/#mor...

I've been thinking of how to make it easier to flip right to any given context list in my hPDA, and this sounds perfect! Print the icons onto rectangular labels, then fold them in half over the edge of the card, so that it sticks out like a tab.

Wingdings & Printer Labels

I've used my B/W laser printer to print wingdings and webdings, in larger sized font, onto sheets of self-adhesive sticky labels.

You could cut these to the appropriate size and stick them onto the corners of your index cards or whatever other filing system pages currently in use.

Now is the time to be in the sun. Working in the garden is the thing to do! (I would be right now, but it started raining!) We can wait!

I'm actually going through a very non-productive phase these days :(

I will attempt to design and get my templates in use before too long... and I will share :D

My main focus these days is my gardens... so much to do to whip them into shape for the big blooming season.

dafonts is one of my favorite free font sites. i've spent hours combing the site and drooling and being generally amazed at the amount of fonts that people come up with.

Someone else likes Webdings, too. :-) That's another interesting use I had not thought of -- as qualifiers/categories for the information being captured.

Icons on hPDA?

Not really a question, just rumination.

I'm starting to play with my own forms for a hPDA, and had the idea of using icons in the upper-right corner to denote the main purpose of the card, so I don't need to process the title when I'm flipping through a stack.

Anyone use something like this? I wound up just dropping on characters from the "Webdings" font: a price tag for my "Comparison Shopping" form, grocery bags for my "Shopping List", etc.. And I'm looking for an excuse to use the goofier ones like the alien and chipmunk. :-)

Originally I put them in the upper left like a playing card, but I flip my cards vertically to find them, not fan them out. I still want to use tabs to divide the major sections, but within a context -- like shopping -- there are a number of sub-contexts that I want to keep distinct.
