Wash out and refill cartridges from bottled ink.
That way, when you want to change colors, you can either dump the unused ink back in the bottle, or just discard it as you have a whole bottle full.

Ink colors - opened cartridge storage

The problem, Sard, is that I don't wanna waste my cartridges. I shall have to use up one before I try another color. So my color chart project might take a while...

Unless someone knows a way to store cartridges that have been previously inserted into a pen?

Nah, Sard, I wouldn't hold it against you. The pen is really nice!

I am currently using Levenger's Skies of Blue ink, and I love it. Not too dark, not too light, not dull.

As I try out new inks, I am keeping a piece of 24lb 118 bright white paper, and with each new ink I will add something to the paper. This should give a decent reference point for the colors, and eventually, when I have more than one color on there, I could put a photo up.

...I completely understand. Years ago I used to do quite a bit of bass fishing, and kept multiple rods with different rigs on each in my rented rowboat. No re-tying for me! Having several fountain pens with varying colored ink makes perfect sense to me.

Blue truewriter

Yep, I got the blue one. It's beautiful. It has the fine tip, which I find to be perfect on my beloved Clairefontaine paper. It flows smoothly, not scratchy, but is fine enough to be a pleasure to write with. The balance is really nice on this pen. For now, I'm using cartridges, but it does come with a converter, too.

Unfortunately, now I have an insane desire to collect all the colors of the truewriters. This is partly because I would like to have several ink colors available at any one time, and so of course, if I want red ink, that can't be put into a blue pen, now, can it? Or blue into red. It's just... wrong somehow.

Sarah, hooray for you! Which color True Writer did you opt for? I have been eyeing up the blue one myself. It looks really snazzy in the Levenger catalog. Also, did it come with a converter so you can fill it yourself, or will you strictly use cartridges? I chose a black ink cartridge for my first go 'round, but have a blue one at the ready when the black runs dry. About the nib, is it fine or medium?

Hi Roberto! Yep, I have since acquired a retro51 and a Levenger truewriter. I like them both, although I find I reach for the truewriter more often. That could be because the ink I currently have in the truewriter is a really beautiful blue...

HOWEVER, if you have a dream about YOU playing the ukelali in the London Symphony Orchestra while wearing a raincoat, that's more the kind of goal setting we are talking about here.

Sara, good solid resolutions, I like them. One piece of advice, if I may. If you have a dream about your mother playing the ukelali in the London Symphony Orchestra while wearing a raincoat, experts advise that that means that you'll be hit by a van transporting cinnemon buns, but it won't hurt that much.

Some things change and some things don't. What's your New Year's Resolution?

Greetings all and Happy New Year! Well, this year's New Year's was a roaring success. People stood out in the cold all over the world and celebrated. In New York they watched the ball drop, in Florida they watched a drag queen in a shoe drop and in New Orleans they watched a huge pot of gumbo drop, all activities that apparently make a lot more sense when you're plastered. Bucking the international trend, Meghan and I simply dropped from exhaustion, opting to stay inside by the fireplace. Let everybody else enjoy the cold this year, we thought.

I got to wondering what people's New Year's Resolutions were, so I thought I'd ask. What are your New Year's Resolutions, guys? If you haven't made a New Year's Resolution before, they should be practical, reasonable, helpful and achievable. Here are a few of mine as examples:

Build that bomb shelter.
Just once, play chess with a Belgian transvestite.
Go to Chinatown and ask for a hamburger.
Learn to speak Gaelic.

So what are you resolving to do differently this year, folks? Share it with the class.
