more on adoc in the UK

I just found a company called pegasus national who seem to do adoc in different sizes and have a variety of paper refills. The paper seems cheaper than rymans (but still adoc so presumably still that good quality) and they have a hole punch but its a staggering £120 down from £200! so probs best to still get those kinda things from the states.

Hybrid can be the best...

Hi Circac,
Hybrid systems reflect what suits your personality and the way you work. You're in good company for GTD started as a hybrid system, which became GTD as David Allen developed it.

I've found the main thing with developing my own system was finding the balance between doing what worked well for me and forcing myself to do what I had to do. The hardest part for me was avoiding lazy habits and avoiding over-planning, or planneritis. :) I needed to have my system working for me and not me working for it.

It sounds like you've avoided that had have found a system that suits you.

My only suggestion is to make tiny changes if you find something isn't quite working right. Like the little nudges when straightening a picture on a wall. Then you'll have your system working well.

Remember, off the shelf planning systems are like off the rack clothes. One size rarely fits all. :)

Joe's Goals is free web app that's really easy to use. You can track positive things, negative things, and have a log book for different subjects.

I need to start using it again myself, now that I'm exercising again...

Disc binding instead of ring binding. You could use the same FC forms and such

Check it out here

It looks very eye catching and versatile; Would love to find something like this to use myself?

Nicely stated

Hi Katrina: You stated that very nicely and that kind of summary helps me "stay grounded" so to speak. I can very easily get caught up in having that Cadillac system that may not even exist instead of just concentrating on the basics, which is much more user friendly and more likely to be used. Thanks.

Nice set up

Sounds like a very nice set-up Kate. I think you have to have a mind for that and I am always drawn to anyone who looks like they have a good system. Like you said, they come to you when they need something, not the techno folks. I certainly admire the techno folks but would be lost without my paper and pen systems.

If you have not yet gone to flylady.net "run don't walk" to the computer to start this wonderful program. I promise you will not be disappointed. I wish she were around when my kids were little. This is good whether a person has kids or not, it's a great way to get organized. Good luck !!!

Levenger Store

I am so glad to know that Levenger has a store in Washington D.C. My daughter lives there and we will be going this month. I will be sure to find that store and stop by. Yes, it really makes a difference when you can see and feel the merchandise. I have been happy with my two (thus far) Levenger purchases. Such high quality and many things you can't find elsewhere.

talk to Ygor about his Circa-nator

Actually, he called it the Circa Maximus

He found a steal for one of Rolla's quasi-industrial models on e-bay. There was a fair amount of crowing about it initially, and lots of promises of pictures. But never have any been posted.

I'm beginning to dis-believe!!

I *think* what he got was something like the Rollabind PBS 2000. But I'm not so sure.

Are you listening Ygor, I'm beginning to dis-believe.
Show us some pics!!

pretty please!

...it is the same to me. What I would like is something that can punch at least 1/4 inch of material, preferrably more.

Any ideas where to find something like that?

Lots of choices

You can bind your 3 x 5 cards together in many different ways.

The book ring and band method is simple and inexpensive. And the cards can be rearranged easily on the ring and the whole "mechanism" costs next-to-nothing.

Binding ties also work, there's an example somewhere here on the site. These are especially good if you want to have 2 or more holes in the top of the cards, and don't want to bother with the Circa system. (Which is a very expensive set up if you're only using it for 3 x 5 cards).

If you want no holes in your cards, then a elastic band or hairband works (with a small paper folder fif you want to protect the cards).
Or an envelope.
Or push on binder clips for a more solid binding.

If you like flicking though your cards for reference, then a cheap photo-album is a good alternative. (One of those 3x5 plastic sleeve albums sold at discount shops works well).

My personal favourite is a small binding ring.
It allows easy 'flipping' through the stack of cards but it hasn't got the rigidity of a spiral bound notepad (one of the problems with the Circa approach for me, if I wanted a top or side bound notepad I'd buy one).
The cards can be spread out like a fan if needed, flipped like a shorthand notebook or (if you have a lot of cards) stored on multiple small binder rings by topic.
And, the cards have only one small hole in a corner.
